The holiday season is a great time for some festive team building activities at work. This week in the Sterilite marketing department we had a Secret Santa ornament swap. Gathering clues and speculating about who bought what ornament is a great way to bring people together. Below are the rules if you want to have your own Secret Santa Ornament Swap and Instructions for a DIY bottle ornament that will steal the show.
Rules for Secret Santa Ornament Swap
- Put all the names in a bowl and have everyone draw a name.
- Everyone purchases or makes an ornament for the coworker they drew. Something funny, something that reminds them of that coworker, or just something they might like.
- On the day of the swap secretly leave the ornament on their desk. You can come in early the day of, stay a little late the evening before, keep an eye out for when they are not at their desk or send a messenger with the ornament.
- The following day, gather everyone around to guess who their Secret Santas are.
- Have everyone sit in a circle. Go around the circle once, with each participant sharing their guess and the clues that lead them to believe it was that person. If they guess incorrectly, move on to the next person in the circle.
- After the first round of guesses, go around the circle one more time so that people who missed their first guess can try again, this time they can guess until they get it right.
DIY Bottle Ornament Instructions
You will need:
- A miniature plastic bottle
- Spray paint
- A drill
- A medium drill bit
- A small drill bit
- Ribbon or yarn
- A strand of battery operated mini string lights
- A label or paper and double sided tape
- A command strip or hot glue
- Empty and clean the mini plastic bottle. Remove the label either by soaking the bottle in water, or by heating it up with a blow dryer. If any adhesive residue is left you can remove it with Goo-Gone.
- Remove the lower ring section of the cap from the neck of the bottle. Spray paint the cap whatever festive color you’d like, and set it aside to dry.
- Using the medium drill bit, drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle to insert the string lights.
- Feed the string of lights through the hole in the bottom of the bottle. Make sure the lights are evenly distributed inside the bottle. This can be done by holding one light in the neck of the bottle and using a pencil to arrange the other lights.
- Attach the battery pack to the back of the bottle, this can be done with either a command strip or hot glue.
- Using the small drill bit, drill a hole in the center of the bottle cap. Feed a loop of the ribbon or yarn through this hole and tie a knot on the underside of the cap. Reattach the cap to the bottle.
- For the label, use this template and when printing select index card for paper size to get the label to down to size for a mini bottle.
